About Teenage Anxiety
There are many myths about depression and anxiety in young people but the reality is that feeling sad, irritable and anxious most of the time is not a ‘normal’ part of adolescence. Teen stress is a pivotal health issue because of its capacity to disrupt an adolescent’s ability to handle the demands of daily life, yet is often overlooked and is poorly understood. Stress emerges for young people as they enter adolescence, a transition that brings rapid socio-emotional changes.
Teens must confront the challenges of developing healthy relationships with their peers, meet the expectations of school and the responsibilities of family life and cope with naturally occurring physiological and emotional changes. Stress or anxiety left unchecked or unmanaged can have a profound effect on an adolescent’s physical, emotional and psychological well-being, leading to illness, depression and feelings of isolation.
The symptoms of stress/anxiety can vary in degree and intensity, they may include any or all of the following. Excessive worry about events or activities (exams, studying, sporting or music finals), feelings of restlessness, sleep disturbance, irritability, difficulty concentrating, panic attacks, withdrawal from close family and friends, as well as physical symptoms such as muscle tension, headaches and migraines, nausea, tiredness, allergies and loss or change of appetite.
ABOUT THERAPY: WHAT TO EXPECT THERAPEUTICALLY
Therapy will initially focus on providing immediate symptom relief, by incorporating stress management techniques including specifically orientated meditations, guided imagery, progressive muscle relaxation and deep breathing exercises. Therapy may then include a combination of the following interventions:
- TMC - (Thought Matrix Meridian Counselling) Identifying and challenging underlying negative beliefs, thoughts and behaviours.
- BLSP - (Bi-lateral Stimulation Processing).
- Gentle Tapping Techniques.
We will explore past and current relationship dynamics and self-defeating behaviours that may be contributing to feelings of anxiety. Therapy serves as both an anchor and a guide, keeping teens grounded while they search for healthy ways to express themselves’ and fulfill their needs.
ABOUT THERAPY: WHAT TO EXPECT PERSONALLY
Every client is an individual and their experience of the world and how they interact with others is unique to them. In my sessions I offer support and guidance and a safe, nurturing and empathetic environment in which a client is invited to explore their current circumstance and freely express their thoughts and feelings in confidentiality. Therapy is orientated towards creating Inner resources and coping strategies for anxiety management, learning self-soothing and self-care techniques, developing better relationship skills, building self-esteem and confidence, creating inner strength skills, discovering ways to overcome difficulties, making changes in themselves and their situations and overall to provide healthy ways to express their individuality and fulfill their needs.
STUDENTS – DURATION OF SESSIONS: ONE HOUR - $80.00, ONE AND HALF HOURS - $120.00
ADULTS – DURATION OF SESSIONS: ONE AND HALF HOURS - $130.00

PRIVATE AND PERSONALISED STRESS RELEASE WORKSHOPS FOR ADULTS
I can on request work in a personal and private capacity with small groups (work-office, sports clubs, mothers' groups, private clubs). These workshops are designed using Mindful Presence Techniques to provide stress and anxiety relief skills and self-soothing tools, also incorporating meditation practices. Unlike general meditations, the experience is deepened through a process known as “Relaxing and Releasing” – This process is orientated towards releasing tension, tightness and stress in the mind-body system.
ABOUT MINDFUL PRESENCE WORKSHOPS
“Mindful Presence Workshops” is a program designed specifically for providing teenagers with resources and strategies for coping with stress and anxiety, teaching self-care and self-soothing skills and building self-esteem and confidence. These workshops came into being because of the increasing numbers of adolescents and teenagers that were seeking support and guidance for the many and varied stresses and anxieties associated with exams, study and school life.

TEEN THERAPY AND COUNSELLING – THE MOST FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
- HOW PRIVATE IS IT?
Therapists respect the privacy of their clients and they keep things they are told confidential. A therapist won’t tell anyone else including parents – about what a person discusses in his/her session unless that person gives permission. The only exception is if the therapist believes that their client may harm themselves or others.
- DOES IT MEAN “I’M CRAZY”?
Absolutely not, there’s nothing wrong with getting help with problems that are hard to solve. Just like students often see tutors or coaches for extra help with schoolwork or sports, getting help in dealing with emotions and stressful situations takes courage and maturity. It’s always better to look for solutions to problems instead of ignoring or hiding them.
- WHAT IS THERAPY?
Therapy is a process that’s a lot like learning, through therapy people learn about themselves. They discover ways to overcome difficulties, develop inner strength skills or make changes to their life or their situations. Often, it feels good to have a person to vent to and other times it’s useful to learn different techniques to help deal with stress.
