The Therapeutic Process

Welcome to a special world of therapy.  Whether this is a new pathway or the next step in a journey towards wellbeing, happiness or resolution of an issue, I would be delighted to share with you an understanding of this unique work.

For many of us there are gaps in our lives. Perhaps you feel:

‘I’m just not happy…’

‘I wish I knew what I want to do…’

Why can others do/have/get something and I don’t/can’t…?

There’s something wrong with me…

Why don’t I have the relationship, job, money, friendships I want?

On a very personal level I can relate to such thoughts and feelings, which left me feeling empty, unhappy and alone. While to the outside world I looked high functioning and fine, inside I just didn’t feel okay.

I believe there are many ways in which to discover the how to empower yourself, and it is a gift when you find your path. After many years of searching, Soul Centred Psychotherapy was where I found My Self.

The tools of psychotherapy and my other trainings can help you to enrich and empower your life, gain a strong positive sense of Self so you can feel nourished, resourced and happy.

My passion is to work with people to connect them with these resources so we know more of who we are and how we can be useful in the world.   My motto: The mind thinks; the heart knows.

My therapeutic work incorporates techniques such as: Focusing on Personal Story, Creative Expression of Thoughts, Emotions, Body Sensations, Symptoms, Memories, Dreams, Images, Symbols, Relationships with Others and with the World. Thought based processes and behaviour pattern changing processes are also used.

In my practice I welcome clients wishing to work with both short-term issues and more in depth self-discovery. I believe in a sense of safety between the client and therapist. All clients can be assured of a confidential, non-judgmental and authentic communication. I have extensive life experience that I believe I bring to my work. Please give yourself permission to call me and discuss what you can gain from therapy.

Getting to know Amira

After school I studied Biochemistry at the University of Melbourne. My imagined career didn’t prove satisfying and I set up a small business in gemology and jewellery valuation.

After a decade, I was fortunate to move into the media and became the Senior Producer for the Melbourne broadcaster Michael Schildberger.

Despite the prestige of working in a high profile job, over time I became immobilized. I now realize this was because I was not living my authentic life. It took some time but great fortune brought me to Kairos, and my journey with psychotherapy began. I trained at the Kairos Centre, completing my full Diploma, and I continue with ongoing training. I am a clinical registrant with PACFA.

I have also worked and trained with Lifeline and Crisis Line and in the Prison System. In addition to my private practice, I currently also work at Turning Point Drug and Alcohol Services. I have extensive work experience in the field of addiction (drug and alcohol, gambling and food). I also specialize in running workshops to understand the importance of Boundaries in our lives.

I am delighted to share my broad experience and exposure with my clients. I believe in a safe, open and generous environment in which we can work together to meet your personal needs.
